Therapeutic Massage

What is Therapeutic Massage?

Why should you have Therapeutic Massage from a Physiotherapy Clinic?
What to expect during an appointment
At the start of your initial consultation you will be asked to complete a brief health questionnaire. Your therapist will then run through a basic physical examination to identify any specific areas for treatment. A personalised treatment plan will then be developed to suit your needs/requirements/wishes.
For the therapeutic massage you will be required to partially undress. You will be left to get ready and provided with sheets/towels to ensure dignity is always maintained. During your treatment you will either be resting face down or face up on our treatment couch whilst the various massage techniques are performed. Additional towels and pillows can be used to ensure you feel comfortable throughout. Your therapist will communicate with you during the session to ensure massage pressures are suitable for you.
Please wear suitable clothing that will enable easy changing at the start/end of the session, and that will allow you to do some stretches should this option be chosen (see below).
How long are sessions?
We offer either 45-minute appointments or 1-hour appointments for therapeutic massage.
- 45-minute appointments - for one main condition/problem area.
- 1-hour appointments - for multiple problem areas, or if you would like the addition of a bespoke exercise program to help manage your symptoms long-term. Any exercises provided will be demonstrated and practised during the session, and you will be provided with a program complete with videos and pictures of each individual exercise.
How many session will I need?
A recent condition/issues can usually be improved with few sessions. For a more longstanding pain problem we may recommended a course of treatments. This will be discussed with you at your first appointment.
